With each new design project I make small batches of textile pieces for sale through my website and then store the blocks and printing notes for future orders.

The Quilt Project

My range of printed quilts is influenced by traditional patchwork and wholecloth quilt designs, aiming to simplify and play on the printing blocks’ ability to create detail and difference in the way each print is inked and overprinted. The printing of such large pieces of cloth was enabled by a grant from Sheffield City of Makers, Sheffield Culture Consortium and Arts Council England, which allowed me to buy a wonderfully large drummed washing machine to wash/fix my printed textiles before working with them; a turning point for designing and printing much larger pieces of fabric and also the time and opportunity to experiment with combining print and stitch.

The China Fragment Project

The china fragment project was inspired by ‘found’ pieces of china I dug up in the garden, usually when weeding, during the Covid lockdowns. To focus I felt I needed to pare down my inspiration to the bare minimum of form, line, pattern and colour, and these random tiny pieces offered just that opportunity, not to mention the joy of a homegrown treasure hunt.

The Urban Tree Project

Living and working in Sheffield it’s impossible to ignore the recent controversy about the felling of many street trees. A positive to come out of this public sadness and anger is an increased recognition and appreciation of the ‘ordinary’ urban tree, in parks, residential areas and within the city centre. By creating a series of urban tree leaf designs, focusing on their unique shapes, colours and characteristics, I’ve tried to rediscover and celebrate these trees with bold and striking representations.
